Sailing and Racing

The club provides racing activities on Wednesday starting at 19.00hrs  and Sundays at 13.00hrs  from March until October. On the whole this is handicap racing with a variety of classes competing.  A range of trophies are competed for during the season including the much prized Semi Quaver shield which was presented to the club back in 1962  by James Gillies former owner of Largo Net Factory and direct

descendant of Alexander Selkirk –  AKA Robinson Crusoe

Club Handicap Championship

There are a number of competitions which are set aside for novice and beginners, such as the handicap trophy, where no previous winners of the club championship or other external class winners are allowed to compete. These include the Handicap Trophy and also the Daniel Cup .

Although our heritage is a dinghy racing club, we are hoping that some of our new members will join us this year on the club picnic which is all about cruising and not about racing. This was an event which used to be a firm favourite in the club’s early days and we are hoping that it will become a regular date in everyone's diary each year.

Our annual Regatta  which is held on the last weekend in June is always a well attended event and will see up to 70/80 boats competing over the weekend. Over the last few years we have also attracted some national  events for classes such as the Must Performance Skiffs, International Moth, Cherubs, Solo, 505 and others, who all enjoy the great sailing conditions prevalent in Largo Bay.

The club has a range of boats available for hire including 2000’s, Pico's, Laser’s (with all rigs Full, Radial and 4.7) and an RS Feva . Don't be put off by thinking this is an expensive sport to get into. With holiday memberships starting at only £20.00 and boat hire from as little as £5.00 it is well within reach of most people.
